Signifi cant jurisprudence promulgated by the Supreme Court were issued since the last revision of this book. Highlighting the decisions were those promulgated in the cases of Lhuillier v. British Airways (March 15, 2010) wherein applying Article 28(1) of the Warsaw Convention, Philippine Courts have no jurisdiction over a tortuous conduct committed against a Filipino citizen and resident by airline personnel of a foreign carrier traveling beyond the territorial limit of a foreign country; MOF Co., Inc. v.

Shing Yang Brokerage Corporation (December 18, 2009) where a consignee, who is not a signatory to the bill of lading, is not liable to pay the corresponding freight and handling charges; and UCPB General Co. v. Aboitiz Shipping Corporation (February 10, 2009) applying strictly Article 366 of the Code of Commerce on the 24-hour claim requirement.

This latest edition comes out at a time when the University of Santo Tomas, where the author studied law, is celebrating its 400 years as an institution of academic excellence. Hence, this updated edition, which aims to enhance the knowledge and comprehension of students in Transportation Laws, is a humble contribution of the author in the 400th centennial anniversary of his alma mater.

As always, the author is deeply and ever grateful to the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for accomplishing this edition.

Special acknowledgment is given to Atty. Nilo T. Divina, Dean, Faculty of Civil Law, University of Santo Tomas; Rev. Fr. Isidro C. AbaƱo, OP, Regent, Faculty of Civil Law, University of Santo Tomas; and Atty. Ernesto P. Maceda, Jr., Dean of the College of Law, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. The author hopes that this new edition will again gain acceptance and satisfaction of the law students, practitioners and members of the bench and bar.
