Textbook writing is one area where one can enjoy two things. First, cultivating the sense of diligence in reading literatures, composing a narrative, and putting them in coherence; and second, developing the value of reading as foundation of learning. The product of putting the two together is a textbook that would bridge a caveat created by the integration of two very important subjects in genera education. These are the fi elds of history and government with constitution.

The integration of these two subjects left mentors with nothing to use as a common textbook. To address this problem, the authors decided to put up their research together and form this book for use on said subjects.

This book is divided into 11 chapters.

Chapter 1 delves with the concepts of history and political science.

Chapter 2 discusses the geographic location of the Philippines.

Chapter 3 chronicles the coming of the famous explorer, Ferdinand Magellan.

Chapter 4 starts the presentation of the governments of the Philippines during the Spanish colonization.

Chapter 5 tackles the government during the American and Japanese occupations.

Chapter 6 discusses the third republic from Roxas to the Marcos administration.

Chapter 7 deals with martial law years in the Philippines up to the fourth republic.

Chapter 8 introduces the fi fth republic, which includes the administrations of Presidents Aquino, Ramos, Estrada, and Arroyo.

Chapters 9, 10, and 11 tackle the provisions of the 1987 Constitution, which are divided into three parts: the constitutions of sovereignty, liberty, and government.

Considering the bulk of the subjects and the limitations adopted, the authors hope that this book would help both the students and professors in attaining the objectives set forth. Further, this book would make students’ learning more simple and teaching the subject more attainable within the allotted time. And since this is
the first edition, any suggestions and comments are most welcome if only to make this book better in the next revision. Certainly, two heads are better than one.
