Penal System Under the Revised Code (Paper Bound)

"Prison conditions in the Philippines is  generally poor and prison life is absolutely  harsh. Law offenders are removed from free society, segregated from their community, physically deprived of family life, forced to live in a highly  dictatorial and regimented routine of daily life for a specified judicially prescribed period.
But this is just sugar-coating prison life. To put it more accurately, prisoners are locked up in a dingy and cramped up space where the air you breath reeks of  feces, urine and other human excrements,  the temperature is at par with a feverish body temperature and the meals  you eat are comparable to swills in a pigsty. Here one can find the radicals softened by physical battery, the sexually deranged castrated and the behaviorally maladjusted debased by  brutal gang leaders and other prisoners. Prison conditions in the Philippines is living hell on earth.
If the the true test of civilization can best be measured on how it  gives care and respect to its law offenders, then they  should not spend a day more in jail than they deserved.
Judge Marlo Bermejo Campanilla‚Äôs in depth analysis on Penalties and how they should be imposed highlights and underscore the means and the methods to preserve the very scant rights afforded  a convicted felon. Granting that it be used by the members of the bench, then justice is served at its potent best in favor of the most marginalized sector of our society.
