This book, after twenty years, continues to pursue its mission. The mission is public education in labor law towards elevation of the people’s quality of life. The book is meant for the general reader but particularly the business or law students (especially the bar candidates) and the managers of people.
We look at labor law as an instrument to alleviate poverty – as an economic equalizing force. It is a vibrant force. Take “ENDO” for instance. In our 2000 edition, we explained that “end of contract” by itself was not a legal reason to terminate one’s employment. Recently, the Department of Labor and Employment issued D.O. No. 174. It caused tremendous public reaction. Some labor groups rallied against it because it did not abolish “contractualization” outright. But some business people maintained that “fixed term” employment was unavoidable and that contracting out was a business necessity. Contracting out, they asserted, could create business and jobs, and this is good for economic growth. So the questions still burn: Should contracting out be discouraged or encouraged? Is D.O. No. 174 a way to reduce poverty? The issues are not settled – and still unsettling.
Similarly, in a previous edition we pointed out that we had no law prohibiting age discrimination. Just recently, Congress passed R.A. No. 10911, our new law against age discrimination. Congress is currently considering more Labor Code amendments.
A number of important Supreme Court decisions must likewise be noted. These include the rulings about employment-at-will; the conditional hiring of employees; the contractual restrictions to outsourcing; and the status of employees in the event of company mergers. Also explained here is the 2017 ruling on the right of part-time employees to receive retirement benefit, and some other rulings.
We need to know these pulsating changes. This enriched revision, we hope, enhances the usefulness of the book in two fronts: as a reviewer for bar takers and a basic reference for managers of people.
We continue to be grateful for the opportunity to help provide information about Philippine labor law. This has been our ardent aim since the first edition twenty years ago. And we continue to “talk” plainly with our main audience – the law and business students, particularly the bar takers, and the people who manage people.

DELIVERY AND RETURNS POLICIES

1. Orders are processed daily from Monday to Saturday. Orders received by 2:00 pm (Philippine time) are processed on the same day while orders received after 2:00 pm are processed on the next WORKING day.

2. Sold products are packed and available for courier pickup and consolidation within twenty-four (24) hours after the order has been processed and approved.

3. If an order will not be available within 24 hours or is out-of-stock, the customer will be notified via email and will be advised if and when the item will become available.

4. The customer has the option to  have the order canceled and the customer will not be charged for the order.

5. To track the status of an order, log in to Rex e-Store account then go to 'My Account' >> 'History and details of my orders'.

COURIER TRANSIT TIME

Metro Manila : 3-5 days,
Provincial : 4-6 days

SHIPPING

1. Orders are normally dispatched on the next business day following the day the order was confirmed to the customer. Orders for delivery within Metro Manila will be delivered within 3 to 5 days from the process date of the order. While for the orders to be delivered to a provincial destination will take 5 to 10 days from the process date to be delivered.
2. Rex Book Store does not assume responsibility for and shall not be liable for any damages, whether direct, incidental, special or consequential, arising from the handling and delivery of order goods by the authorized couriers. However, Rex Book Store shall properly coordinate with its authorized courier who is responsible for the shipment, to properly compensate the customer.

RETURNS

1. If you would like to return a book purchased in Rex e-Store due to product defect, Rex Book Store shall facilitate a replacement. However, shipping and handling charges are non-refundable.
2. Please advise us within seven (10) days from receipt of the item, of your intent to return an item, including the corresponding reason or actual product defect. You may send us the advice via email at orders@rexestore.com or . A notice of replacement shall be issued to the customer once request is approved.
